Colleen Scheid was born in California and moved to Australia at the age of ten, where she learned to subdue her American accent to avoid gales of laughter when she said words like ‘aluminum’ and ‘oregano’. Experiences like this tend to bake in a useful cross-cultural sensitivity.
At sixteen, she took a leap from cynical agnosticism to faith in Jesus, discovering that she was not, in fact, smarter than all Christians who had ever lived. The love, hope, joy, and challenge of that path weaves itself into her writing.
She moved back to the States when she was twenty-one and has lived in Cincinnati ever since, where she published drama with Standard Publishing in the 80s and 90s, selling 80,000 copies with no more effort than showing up to meet with an editor and get her photo taken! How times have changed. Publishing and marketing is a whole different game now.
Colleen kept her writing short (articles, drama sketches, and blog posts) while raising three boys, who all showed up within two years! (Premature twins when the older boy was one explain that.) Now she’s enjoying having the time to write novels, a lifelong dream. When she’s not writing, Colleen divides her time between acting with Friends of the Groom Theater Company, doing ministry with her urban church, and enjoying life with her husband, three sons, and two daughters-in-law.
Colleen has a B.A. in Journalism and an M.A. in Counseling. She has published two novels, a book of short stories, and several collections of drama. Themes of faith, redemption, and healing run strong in her work, which centers on our relationships with family, community, and God. When her husband asks her what kind of movie she wants to watch, she says, “Aesthetically pleasing, positive character development, happy ending”.
