Lauren Burnett has spent decades in service to others – counseling struggling children and caring for ailing parents. Now, at 49, she finds herself alone in a neglected old house, grieving and questioning her choices. She longs for peace and a life that finally belongs to her.
She didn’t count on Jay. The contractor who shows up at her door is good-looking, kind, and warm in a way she’s never experienced. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and terrifying. Because Lauren knows how to give, but she doesn’t know how to let someone in. Old patterns of codependency and fear run deep, and just when she starts to believe that love may be within reach, Jay’s troubled daughter and unstable ex show up to remind Lauren why she built those walls in the first place.
After All the Lost Years is a warm, resonant novel about the complicated courage it takes to choose yourself – and someone else – after a lifetime of standing last in line. It tackles tough issues of addiction and mental illness in light of God’s healing power and the strength of Christian community.

Colleen Scheid Bio
Colleen Scheid is a fiction, drama, and non-fiction writer living in Cincinnati. You can find her books on Amazon and her blog at www.colleenscheid.com. She performs with Friends of the Groom, a Christian theater company, and tutors underserved students in her neighborhood. She had a rewarding relationship with Standard Publishing, which sold 80,000 copies of her three drama collections for churches. Colleen earned a BA in Journalism in Australia, where she spent 11 years, and an MA in Counseling from the University of Cincinnati. One degree gave her a passion for depicting real places and situations; the other gave her a fascination with her characters’ interior lives. Colleen longs for her writing to draw people closer to God and their communities, and to give hope for healing. She lives with her husband in a quirky Victorian house down the street from their beloved church, and they have three grown sons who are all kinds of fun.
